July, 2002 iCE Pack

1. We have tons of fantastic work this month. iCE artists must be getting excited for our upcoming 10th Anniversary pack next month! We want to welcome Epoch of Entropy back from the dead and are very proud to announce that Jae and Leonardo are making ansis again. It is hard to believe this much artwork came together when many iCE members are swapping sleep for turns in TradeWars on the Piranha BBS (piranha.zapto.org).

2. In the ANSI department, we need to welcome back Fire From Heaven. Joining us for the first time is ewheat, Alla Xul, ReAnimator, and Spear. ewheat held a press conference to announce his membership, and Janet Reno introduced him. There was a gasp when the reporter from the LA Times asked him a question involving rubber tubing and his failed babysitting business, but he handled the stress well. Alla Xul told us all that he thinks of himself as an African princess, but we let it slide after we saw his skills with a cursor. ReAnimator shared his plans for world domination as well as a new fragrance for men. Finally, Spear wowed us with his ability to (verb) a full (number) inches of (noun) into his (noun), at least until Trip and Root88 put on a double act that totally outdid Spear's feat. Welcome to all the new members! In the words of Sinned Soul, "I don't give a damn what the court order says, I'm going to go visit my grandmother at the gun show!"

3. New hi-res artists this month are Picky, Devious, and Arcipello. Archipello joins us from Newcastle in the UK. He tried to apply over the phone with us, but he was completely uncomprehensible - speaking a strange form of European ebonics while wearing some sort of gas mask. Next we have Devious, who admitted that he was from the Great White North. We let him in anyway. Picky was born and raised in Croatia but immigrated to the United States and joined iCE when she heard that Slothy was single again.

4. After perfecting her tattooing skills on her children, Sprite has decided to open her own studio named Lady Hawke Ink in Kansas City. There will be a 20% discount on iCE forehead tattoos. Good luck Sprite!

Wishing you a hot, sweaty, itchy August,
    Root88, Trip and Slothy

random order?
We have some new kickass artists! Great pack.

Is the order of the pics shown in random order each time you visit it? If it is, I think it sucks really.
ffh
Re: random order?
I second that notion

Re: Re: random order?
Wow, finally you guys say something and it's to complain. ;)
tinster
Re: random order?
I can understand the function of having them display randomly. This is a huge pack in as far as quantity of images. It would suck to be the last image on the page WAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY at the bottom.

This way, everyone gets "Equal Billing". I think it's a great feature. Tinster

Re: Re: random order?
Yeah, that was actually my reasoning. I added it as a whim yesterday and I still don't quite understand why it's bad. Tinster, Yonadaan, and Xebra and such got shafted every pack, and visitors had to view all the ansi before they saw a single hi-res pic. I'm proud of all of the work and think they all stand up on their own, so I like randomizing it.

Plus, the layout doesn't currently take the thumbnail size into account, so the first column was like 3x longer than the others, due to the huge ansis. This gives a more balanced layout in general.

Re: Re: Re: random order?
I guess those are valid arguments. What I don't like about it is that when I didn't watch through the whole pack at once I had to watch loads of pics all over again the next time when going through the pack. And if there's an artist I'm looking for quickly in the pack, I can't estimate where his/her pic might be because it's not in alphabetical order anymore. They're small issues, but still issues =)

Re: Re: Re: Re: random order?
Ah, I hadn't thought about that. Those are definitely valid points.

I'm going to think about this a bit and think of a good way to reliably reproduce the randomness and lay it out well.

Here we go...
Why is it that we cannot download the iCE packs anymore... :(

I remember this site when it had that flash animation and frames. That was some time back. I remember when I first visited this site, there was literally no other digital art site like it. Every month I would download the pack and unzip it to my ice directory which was categorized into year-to-month folders...

wow, them were the days...

Now we have sites like DevArt and MANY more digital art pages made by private people. Unfortunately, I have no digital art skill, and I sure would like to know how, since I want to become a web designer, and with that job comes the task of making sites look good. Take a look at my site and see all the graphical "talent" that it fulfills (mywebpages.comcast.net/biffmasta). Not much in my eyes (or in anyone elses for that matter).

So, I like this site, but the inability to download packs is not hip, considering I can still d/l acid pax.

Re: Here we go...
Actually, I don't think there was flash back then, it was javascript I believe.

Re: Here we go...
hahaha.. you must not have checked ACiD's site lately, they haven't released a pack in over a year. :>

iCE > ACiD

Re: Re: Here we go...
In fact acid.org isn't even ACiD right now. Their host couldn't afford having them, so they're down for now (have been for quite a while).

Man... those starcraft replays on your site was the most funny thing ive seen in i dont know how long... i HOPE that the whole thing was a joke... haha.. i allmost swollowed my tounge with laughter when watching the Irvan guy nuke in selfdefence in replay #9 ... i think it must have been the most horrible playing i have ever seen in my life. :D

b00m again
And two more things...

iCE packs were called "Frozen Packs."

and

There used to be a monthly newsletter in email. Apparently that is no longer running.
slothy
Re: b00m again
Actually the packs have always been called iCE Packs. The very first one was ICEPK-08.zip. You're thinking of Frozen Delivery, which was a play on the iCE Pack name. Frozen Delivery only ran for a few months, and I'm hesitant to start it again, since you run into a lot of spam issues when you try to mass-email people who forget that they signed up.

I think if you travel to ftp.ice.org you'll find the packs. Now, we haven't made the zip files for this current pack yet, but we'll get it up there soon. The number of people interested in getting the zip files is so amazingly small that it has to take last priority. Right now putting the pack together, writing the newsletter, getting it on the website, and submitting the news to sites is such a huge task that the zip files take last priority.

And yeah, it was javascript, since there was no Flash yet back then.

Jon
p.s. anyone remember when the iCE website was on freedom.wit.edu? :)

Re: Re: b00m again
how much time can it take to zip down the files and upload to the ftp? we're talking about minutes here! its no big deal really.. but its a bit anoying that you cannot take those minutes while your doing everything else.

ansi looks way better in a viewer than a browser.

nice pack btw =)

Re: Re: Re: b00m again
The zip files are on the ftp site now, so you can go grab them.

G'day all
Howdo folks - just joined and think that the work here is awesome. Followed a link from BREED - glad I did that. Is it not amazing just how much talent is "lying around". Sites like this are a perfect pooling ground.

Once again, the work displayed here is brilliant.

Re: G'day all
We have been around for over a decade. Glad you finally made it. ;)

Re: just a little info
A lot of our artists use Pablodraw for windows. You can probably get a copy of the latest version in #ansi on efnet.

advertisements
why is it called "advertisements gallery"?
trip[iCE]
Re: advertisements
hehe.. iCE originally did mainly ANSi art, and ANSi art used to be mainly for advertising BBSes. It still is, but not always anymore.
slothy
Re: Re: advertisements
but even though it's just tradition/history now, being the #1 hit on google when you search for "advertisements" isn't a bad perk :)

i am missing something?
where is august pack &
september one?
gecky
Re: i am missing something?
August pack is coming out in a few days at most and September pack isn't until the beginning of next month, Jito. There's a lot of things going on so the pack is a little delayed (again). :)

twistedrealmz - issue #2
Issue #2 for twistedrealmz is now out for your enjoyment!!!
Yep, the twisted crew is back! This time with an all new layout and a snappy new site design (designed by fibermarupok, and coded by kreationz)! We’ve also added a ton of new talented artists! Our interviews this issue are with kaos of abnormis, and larkie of breed (as well as twistedrealmz)! This issue also debut’s our first ‘conversation with the artist’, with a more casual environment than that of an interview! It’s kinda like kickin’ back in your living room with one of your favorite artists and just hangin’ out! In this months conversation we sit down with the legendary deaddreamer, aka misery in motion! Really cool chat! We also have added album reviews to our site, with fangedfems reviews of Korn and Linkin Parks newest releases! And don’t forget about the amazing talent and art we have at twistedrealmz! This release is packed w/ some of the most talented young artists around!

So check us out now @ http://www.twistedrealmz.com …..and get twisted!
