April, 2001 iCE Pack

1. We would like to welcome some new artists into iCE! We know, this is practically unheard of. But Tetanus started the petition, and once Sprite visited the mayor about it, well, there wasn't much we could do.

1a. Quantum-X joined ice this month, and is already turning out some really great art. Check out his fish in this month's pack! Despite his insistance that he is the direct offspring of Napoleon and Cindy Lauper, he's a pretty good fella.

1b. Next up, we have our most recent addition, Nokturnal. He hails from Sweden and has a ton of potential. And boy does he ever look good in a red pair of pumps!

1c. Finally we have MdK971, who is a professional graphic artist. Patrick is looking for a place to show off his real creativity, and we think he'll wow everyone with what he's working on. Or maybe he won't at all, and you'll all hate his art. I guess that could happen, but I bet it's fairly improbable. You see, the art I've seen so far is really awesome. That's why I go so far as they say that you probably won't be disappointed. As far as hating it, I think that's right out. I'll stick with my earlier gut feeling on this one.

1f. All three of these new guys are fantastic artists, and we're proud to have them in iCE. Except for Quantum-X. He smells like soup.

2. In other news, we decided to release one of the finished quilts from tiles.ice.org in the pack this month. A lot of iCE members contributed to it, as well as many others who aren't iCE members. It turned out really well, and even caused Jamie McCarter to exclaim, "Holy circus! We need more hostages!". Thanks to me (slothy) (of course), Corpulent Cow, Sq2, Jamie McCarter, Root88, Tetanus, Leonardo, GRRR, Empyrean, Darkhalo, Valacar, MrScrappy, Nessahead, Quantum-X, and Nokturnal for contributing to this kick-ass image.

3. We'd just like to mention that 7 sporks are better than none at all.

4. Thanks again to root88 for his hard work making the pack this month. Root88 is so awesome that his head lice don't even bite him. They're all just groupies, trying to get some alone time with him.

Oodles of noodles,

Re: what program??
Well most artists use a variety of programs. There are a few faces in the pack from different artists. Darkhalo uses 3DS MAX (I believe). The current popular 3D apps are Maya, Softimage, and 3DS MAX. Pretty much all of the 3d work you'll see in the pack is done using one (or maybe more) of those.

Re: boa.com
We have secretly replaced this man's boa.com with new and improved ice.org. Let's see if he can tell the difference.

Boa buddy,is that you? Drop me an email if that's really you. Otherwise, I think you're a very confused and lost man, and I wish you luck :)

Re: how would i submit?
Bimbi,

If you just created a new account, that does not automaticly give you a membership with ice. If you would like to become a member, You can do some art over at tiles.ice.org if you want to catch our attention, or you can just send an email to [email protected] along with some samples of your work (or URLs to samples of your work). Also be sure to tell us a little about yourself. We'll get back to you if we like what we see.

Hope this helps.

Re: links
We removed them when we created the new web page. They were fairly out of date and generic (i.e. Adobe, Maya, etc.), and they're very '1995'. Nobody has secret sites that nobody else knows about these days ;)

Re: Re: links
Before I was in ice, there was a links page that had a list of bunch of ice artists web sites. I used to love going through that list and checking out all the sites. I know you can click on a users name to get to their web site but it's an extra step and not everyone has updated their info.

Re: Re: Re: links
True, that would be nice. We could allow people to vote on which sites are best and sort them in that order. Would give members motivation to keep their info updated and keep their websites fresh.

Good idea root.

Memories
Just fumbled upon the site and got all misty eyed. Made me think of the days when it would cost me 10 bucks to get the latest ICE pack over long distance. ( not really, but I was a Phreak back then ;) Just started thinking about Future Crew, Ice Packs, MODs, and the such and had to post to see if there is any other visitors to this site that remember when the newest game came on a single floppy.

Re: Memories
Yea, the good 'ole days. ViSiON-X, BBS's, iCE, all that good stuff. I think I still have a backup of my BBS laying around somewhere. Scary. Good game on a single floppy disk would have to be Dark Queen of Krynn. Gotta love SSI

DOS GAMES.. the good old timesz?
Hello Guyz,
since ur talking 'bout the 'good old days'. I got a question, doesn't have anything to do with designing. but that doesn't matter does it?

Anyway, this is my question.. I am looking for this dos-game (I think it was dated around 1995..not sure though) it's sortof an adventuregame. With bikers.. the name was somethinh like 'biker trouble' or 'double trouble' or something like that.. I think.. could be the name is something totally different.. So the problem is I don't remember what it was called.. so I can't download or order it anyware.. so if anybody knows of a game that resembles my description.. PLEASE tell me the name!..

thanks already,
Greetz The Zeno

Seire Merge
IMHO I believe that this was not the best idea that has been cranked around. I liked Seire because it was a more dark, morbid, alternative art site wheras the content that I have so far seen on iCE has been mostly physical as opposed to digital. I loved the old disturbed feel of most of the images in the Seire packs and the strange, abstract 3D type works that came with them. I only hope that this trend continues with iCE because if it doesn't then I know there will be many, many, many unhappy people out there.

Re: Seire Merge
What do you mean by "physical" art, as opposed to your definition of "digital"? We don't release photos of sculptures, paintings, or anything truly "physical". All the art we release is digital. I assume you really meant abstract. And we have released abstract art for a long, long time. I think it's fairly odd to require any particular type of art though. iCE will never tell the artists what to do. We'll continue to release the art that the artists produce, and you guys will have to learn to live with photorealistic, abstract, impressionist, and all other art forms living together in harmony :)

iCE merging with Seire is a big win for digital art fans. Maybe not for people who want just a specific kind of art and nothing else, but for people who enjoy all types of digital arts.

Re: Seire Merge
iCE will probably have even a more diverse gallery of art now, since I believe the ex-Seire members will still release what they always have done, same style, different name.

Need a game logo
I'm currently programming a different kind of Tetris game, but my "artistic" talents are strictly limited to drawing crap. I need a super cool logo for the game in 800x600 res.

If you are interested them email me.

Much appreciated.

Re: Need a game logo
Not that I'm interested, but you might want to include your e-mail address for those who are. It's not in your profile.

Want to guest release...
I used to be in FiRE.. back in the day.

Anyway, I have some things I'd like to release and I was wondering if someone would get back to be about how to submit the things I would like released (active email in profile). I think there's about three things that I never released that I would like released in the next pack (probably july), including a bin file (160x150+).

The bin is what I'd like to release most of all. If you guys remember what bin files are. =). I had to draw it in 6 different sections (25 lines each) and combine them to create the entire pic because bin files in thedraw were limited to 50 lines. I've been out of the scene for years, and I found this old link and decided to drop a line about it. But anyway, get back to me about it.. They're quality virgin ansi's ready to be released.

BTW, since there are no viewers that I know of that allow unusuall bins like this I've written a win viewer for it which I'll through in.

What is the mail addres to iCE-team?
Yeah..that IS the question. the [email protected] didn't work when I sent some email to it. I just got return from mailer daemon that there isn't such address at ice.org.
Thanks for now. Could someone please mail me the address to [email protected] ?

Re: What is the mail addres to iCE-team?
Thanks for telling us. We just moved mail to a new server and we're still working out the kinks. We'll get that fixed asap, and I'll mail you privately.
