This tile is from A Tribute to H. R. Giger

Comment: you can't do a Giger tribute without a pale skinned woman with something questionable in her mouth...

Why the hell is it sad?..

Re: Re: Re: Tile comment.
because there's a history of blatant sexism in art? I dunno. It's just a figure of speech. Who knows, maybe it will turn out to be a pale skinned man, by the time the surrounding tiles fill in. <:)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Tile comment.
Just to clarify, I wasn't criticizing the tile. THe tile is great. I was referring to Geiger's tendancy to dehumanize women in his art. (I know, I know, I'm overanalyzing again... university has ruined me).

Did you know that the alien's mouth was based on a vagina?

Giger never seems to depict actual men - he has bunches of disconnected penises and a lot of entendre (very little of it double) but all his masculine characters are biomechanoids. I don't think it's sexist at all but I do think he has some serious issues to work through. Messed up people always make the most interesting art :)

I didn't know that, but I'm not surprised. I bet a freudian psychologist would have something to say about a toothy vagina representing the overbearing, smothering mother or whatnot. I sometimes regret having a mundane middleclass upbringing, I don't have too much trauma to work through :(

It's not about sexism or dehumanising, it's just the pure erotic subfeelings put on paper.. You can't blame me for being 'sexist' if I imagine things like that...
