Ugh
This is a pretty damn poor blend job. You completely ignored all the other tiles, paid lip service to blending and for what? To draw a bad looking fish with a poor color combo. It would almost have been better if your tile didn't smudge in all those other borders and just have clear cut boundaries.

smears
The object of tiles is to play off the work of those next to you.

Your smears do not count. You can do better.

Look here for what you should strive for:

What everyone else said...
... plus the fact that 1) bubbles don't look like that, 2) fish don't look like that, 3) water doesn't look like that.

Part of the word "surreal" is "real", is it not?

Re: What everyone else said...
there's nothing wrong with the fish. It's just a very poor blending job that pays no attention to neighboring tiles.
btw, Surreal - "A 20th-century literary and artistic movement that attempts to express the workings of the subconscious and is characterized by fantastic imagery and incongruous juxtaposition of subject matter." :)
Sorry to rant here, but 'fish' is a very broad term describing a type of animal. I disagree that you can judge a tile based on something not looking like it's "supposed to". But yeah I still agree that this tile ignores the whole concept of blending with others. Staga: I urge you not to be discouraged, but rather try and improve, and use the content of the tiles around your own next time.

Here, here...

Yes I agree totally. I pride myself on doing things that "don't look right". Art is in the eye of the beholder, right? Granted some of my tiles are shit, but I think some are pretty damn good considering I have not drawn freehand in over 10 years (I was never really good anyway, just copied stuff) and I have NEVER done freehand digital art before about a week now.

Thanks to tiles.ice.org I have rediscovered an appreciation and interest in art. Hope that does not sound too corny.

Re: Re: What everyone else said...
The surreal crack was meant to be toungue in cheek. I was however commenting on the fact that the drawing was obviously rushed...

Personally I think that if you are going to ignore the idea of blending a tile to continue the work of surrounding tiles, what you have in the middle should be extremely appealing on its own. True it might be apealing to some and not others, but that's why we all get to comment on each peice individually. _I_ don't find this tile appealing outside of the fact that it (and levik said it best) "paid lip service to blending" and then didn't take me anywhere else.

I don't mean to sound discouraging at all. It's absolutely nothing personal ANYTHING I write on this (or any other) message board. By all means staga should keep at it. But...

1) spend more than an hour on it.
2) don't start with an idea for a tile and then download one... download a tile THEN start thinking of ideas.
3) use as many elements from edges given to you as you can.
4) try to hide any seams between your tile and others.
5) try to give others something good to work off of.

And finally (and this might be something Slothy could add to the code), you probably want to start with tiles that have 2 or 3 sides done for you instead of 0, 1, or 4.

0 and 1 bordered tiles force you to give 3 and 4 sides to other artists... if you don't have a grasp on what to give them yet, you may be sticking a lot of people with stuff that's nearly impossible to blend into.

4 bordered tiles... well, they are just plain HARD. This tile above is a perfect example of a very difficult blend of 4 tiles.

With 2 and 3 sides to work with, it'll force you to use border elements, and give you some room to do whatever you want without having to "solve" the tile on ever side to make a good blend.

Never Smear......
Smearing an images's boarders to get what you want to achieve isn't the name of this game.... Play along...

Shame
Bobo the fish stands out like a soar thumb in this quilt, disrespectfully ruining the hard work of others. Next time, try blending in, like a shitload of people said above.

well ..i just have to write something..
well, as everyone else said..
it's like ruin the art when you totaly mess up with this lame tile..
maybe i'm not the best artist ever but i must say i fell a litle bit of disrespected when you don't give a fk about my tile to the right...
which make all the tiles around yours look much moor uglier ..
that's all.
think about the blending next time.
