I tried
and tried and tried and tried and tried to blend that ultra smooth, banded gradient on the left edge of my tile. I'll be disappointed if the first vote of 2 on this tile sets the trend for the rest of the votes. I still don't feel comfortable voting on my own work, but looking at my other tiles, comparing this tile to others, considering this is a newbie quilt, considering what I got for borders, and considering that this was my second tile, I think it's worth more than 2.

You can't get around the fact that your left neighbor's tile darkens just as it reaches your border. The best thing to do in a situation like that is continue the shape into your tile, including the darkening. extending it and returning it to the original colors only makes the edge between your tiles very obvious.

Your tile's layout is pretty stuffed, but it doesn't look bad. Critique-wise, the main thing is that the pyramids aren't interesting, and the side of the ship, the hot dogs, and the condiments are unshaded and flat. Making most of them small or tiny and lighting them more strongly would have helped. The top half of your top border is pretty empty, too; the tiler above didn't have much to work with.

Getting away from pure black is usually a good idea, too.

Re: True
Cool, thanks for the critique and tips. I was feeling frustrated because I felt that I had recieved a relatively bad rating for a tile that I thought was atleast somewhat fun and interesting without much hints as to why. I'll keep your thoughts in mind on future tiles.
