Hmmm
Did it not save right? It looks like you tried to blend shape-wise, but the colors got distorted. Just out of curiosity, dreamroamer, what program are you using to make these? I like the concepts of a lot of your tiles. They have a nice sense of design. They just often have trouble in the context of the other tiles. And, since this is a collaborative piece, that kinda' counts for a lot. Don't give up. Some of your stuff has been starting to look really good.

Re: Hmmm
Thanks Sway :) ... I was having A LOT of trouble blending my tiles into the quilt ... some turned out totally unblended with their neighbouring tiles and I felt kind of guilty having "disrupted the flow of the quilt." So I'm trying real hard to make improvements, 'specially based on any feedback I get, of what works and what doesn't.

With this one, what actually what happened was, I started with "hard-edged" shapes that I drew, then I decided to twirl them a bit ... and then solarize parts of it to sort of simulate little flicks of flames. I suppose you could say I did a bit of filtering (a no-no?) Do they look distorted? ... gee, thanks for telling me ... lets me know what NOT to do next time, lol.

As for program ... I don't have a program per se yet *sigh*... so I go back and forth between MS Paint and a little image editor called FotoPoint (Studio). So that makes it even harder to create a smooth look and neatly blended effect.

Don't get discouraged.
Yeah. I can understand how tough it is to blend if you're stuck in MS Paint. FotoPaint might actually be a decent substitute if you can't find Photoshop, but I've never tried it. Maybe some others around here have other software suggestions. I think the solarize may have been what changed the colors up on you. Filters aren't necessarily a bad thing. They can create some great effects and sometimes they're just great time savers. But you have to learn to make them do what you want them to. Otherwise they can kind of have a life of their own and may even work against your plan.

Like I said, keep trying. If you have questions about anything, ask around. I've already learned a lot and I've only done about 8 tiles. I see something that I think really looks nice, and I ask how the person did it. Obviously MS Paint is going to hold you back a little, but don't let it discourage you too much. You've had some good tiles. Just pull them into the quilt a little more and your designs will feel much more at home. Those little blocky pyramids are tough to blend with. That may be one of the reasons they took some point hits. It was much easier to work with some of the other patterns you gave us.

Good luck!
